Biography
Morita is a clinician-scientist with extensive leadership experience in global health, medical education, and science policy. Within the Global Young Academy, she served as Co-lead of the Women in Science and Global Health Working Groups (2024–2025). At the Young Academy of Indonesia, she led a Task Force that provides expert input to shape national health legislation and also leads the Frontiers of Science Working Group, which promotes interdisciplinary research and international collaboration. Her leadership has been instrumental in advancing high-impact initiatives, including WINNER 2025 (Week of Indonesia–Netherlands Education and Research), a key platform for strengthening bilateral academic partnerships.
Morita has led several national and international projects, including a WHO-supported initiative to develop e-learning TB modules for Indonesian health workers. She is also the Principal Investigator of research empowering remote communities, work that has earned her prestigious recognitions such as the Falling Walls Women’s Impact Award (2024) and the Young Leaders in Global Health Award (2025) from the World Health Summit Academic Alliance.
Her innovations in science include co-developing the electronic nose, an AI-based diagnostic device (over 4,800 devices were deployed at the public facilities in Indonesia for COVID-19 screening) and tbscreen.ai, an artificial intelligence-powered tool for interpreting chest X-rays in the screening of tuberculosis and other respiratory diseases. She also co-developed a PhD double degree program between Universitas Gadjah Mada and the University of Groningen, enhancing international academic mobility and capacity building.
As a formulator of Clinical Standards on Drug Susceptible Pulmonary Tuberculosis and Clinical Standards for the Management of Adverse Effects During Treatment for TB for the International Union Against TB and Lung Disease, she continues to shape global TB policy and practice. In parallel, she serves as an Editorial Board Member of BMC Infectious Diseases and reviews for several major international funding and fellowship programs, including KONEKSI Australia–Indonesia Knowledge Partnership, European Respiratory Society (ERS) Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowships, and the ERS Lifetime Achievement Award.
A passionate educator, Morita is deeply committed to community service, organizing initiatives such as Science Day for children in Indonesia and participating in the Scientist Goes to School program.
Her cross-continental life between Indonesia and Poland has enriched her global perspective and strengthened her conviction that science is a universal language and a tool for peace in a divided world.
