This GYA group was established as an Incubator in January 2022 by GYA member Encieh Erfani. From January 2024, it continues as a GYA working group.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted by the UN in 2015. These 17 SDGs, consisting of 169 targets planned to achieve till 2030. Moreover, currently, the International Year of Basic Sciences is devoted to the UN SDGs.
This new Incubator group proposes to tap into the GYA’s cumulative potential as an interdisciplinary, global and young academy when it comes to working towards the achievement of the UN SDGs.
The GYA and its members are active in many SDG-related areas (see our page highlighting SDG work here), be it through its working groups, by participating in meetings on the implementation and monitoring of the SDGs, or by providing science-based policy advice to policy-makers and global science organisations.
However, interlinkages and connections with the SDGs might not always be apparent. The group therefore want to raise GYA members’ awareness of the SDGs and the work that is already happening on the SDGs in the GYA, through workshops, trainings, connecting to partners, etc.
For a list of group co-leads since the group was established in 2022, see here.
