Biography
Encieh Erfani is a researcher at Perimeter Institute in Canada. She was an Assistant Professor of the Physics Department at the IASBS, Iran, since Dec. 2015, and she resigned in Sep. 2022 due to protests in Iran. She obtained her Ph.D. degree from Bonn University, Germany, in 2012. Her research area is Theoretical Physics and, in particular, Cosmology. She is an ISC Fellow (2022), an advisory board member of the IAP (2022-2025), and a TWAS Young Affiliate member since 2018. She was a Junior Associate of the ICTP, Italy, since January 2017, a visiting researcher at ICTP-SAIFR, Brazil (2015), and UNAM, Mexico (2022) under the TWAS fellowship, and also a Post-Doctoral fellow of the School of Physics in the IPM, Iran. She also did a one-year Postgraduate Diploma Programme of ICTP (2007-2008). She was the founder of the “Yar-e-Danesh Fund“, 2019, which provides financial support to students. She was also on the board of directors of the Iranian Astronomy Society and the founder of its female branch. Studying in three different countries, being familiar with four languages (English, French, Spanish, and German), working in several international institutes and universities, and organizing many scientific activities (for the public) provided her with a unique set of skills to communicate, understand problems, and find solutions. She is passionate about teaching, promoting science in public, and helping young students, especially females, through international collaborations.
