Research Interests

I am deeply committed to cutting-edge research, development, and innovation that is interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary and multidisciplinary, to understand the issues that affect the society and its development, such as: (1) climate change, (2) Climate Justice, (3) digital transformation and its ethical, social, health, legal impacts, and (4) the sustainable development goals. This is with the purpose of creating solutions with a sustainable focus and with a positive societal impact.

I have expertise in the development and optimization of processes for the recovery of lithium compounds, boric acid and other non-metals, copper and other critical and strategical minerals, the research and development of new (Direct Lithium Extraction DLE) and sustainable processes for the recovery of lithium compounds from brines, energy storage (lithium-ion batteries and hydrogen), artificial intelligence and its applications, phase equilibrium and crystallization, water treatment and purification, sustainability and sustainable development, the development of technologies to diagnose lung diseases like COVID-19 and pneumonia, visible light communications and secure communications.

Currently  I am working on the development of lithium batteries, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, sustainability and sustainable development and social innovation.

Topics to speak on:

Climate Change, Climate Justice, Sustainability, Artificial Intelligence, Digital transformation, Lithium industry, Strategic and critical materials for the low carbon economy, Energy Storage, Hydrogen Economy, Renewable Energy, Social Innovation, Circular Economy

Biography

I am a Chemical Engineer with a mention in Food, graduated with honors from the Universidad Técnica de Oruro (UTO) from Bolivia in 2010. I have a Master in Engineering Sciences with a mention in Mineral Process Engineering (2013) and a Ph.D. in Mineral Process Engineering with specialty in phase equilibrium and crystallization, graduated with distinction (2015) from the Universidad de Antofagasta (UA) from Chile and a Diploma in University Teaching (2018) from the Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH) from Chile.

I have been a Research assistant at the Department of Physical and Chemical Foundations of Process Engineering from the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Germany (MPI Magdeburg) and at the Laboratorio de Investigación de Procesos and the Centro de Investigación Avanzada del Litio y Minerales Industriales from the UA. Also, I have been an Assistant Professor at the Department of Metallurgical Engineering from USACH and the Department of Chemistry from the Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana (UTEM) in Chile. I have been a part-time Researcher in the Programa Institucional de Fomento a la Investigación, Desarrollo e Innovación (PIDi) from the last university. Currently, I am an Associate researcher at the Multidisciplinary Research Center Program in Telecommunications Technologies (CIMTT) of USACH and an Associate Professor at the Universidad Alberto Hurtado.
