Always embrace challenges and look at them as opportunities to expand your limits and grow to a better and stronger version of yourself to help more people and make the world better. So “Don’t limit your challenges….. Challenge your limits instead”.

To change the world you should start by yourself and do the best you can in your field and in the things that you can control. That’s why I always loved Gandhi’s quote ‘’Be the change you want to see in the world”.

Biography

Dr. Mai F. Tolba is an Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. She is an affiliate member of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) and an associate member of the American association for Cancer research (AACR). Dr. Tolba is also a member in women in Science without borders network. She got her Ph.D. in 2013, through a joint supervision scholarship between Ain Shams University and The University of Texas Medical branch, Galveston, Texas, USA. Dr. Tolba’s research mainly focuses on studying the mechanisms of resistance of solid tumors to chemotherapy and immunotherapy. In addition to finding novel ways to overcome chemotherapy adverse effects specially chemobrain. The long-term goal of Dr. Tolba’s research work is to improve the wellbeing of cancer patients.  She received a Fulbright Scholar Award in 2015 and the regional L’Oreal-UNESCO for Women in Science Levant and Egypt Fellowship in 2016. She also received the 5th edition Science by women award from Mujeres por Africa Foundation in 2019. Dr. Tolba won collaborative research grants funded by Al-Jalilah foundation and the University of Sharjah, UAE in 2018. Dr. Tolba is the director of the cell culture facility at the Center of Drug Discovery Research and Development in Ain Shams University. She mentors 15 M.Sc. and Ph.D. scholars in addition to serving as a panel member in Fulbright-Egypt selection committee as well as L’Oreal-UNESCO for Women in Science Sub-Saharan Africa review panel. She co-authored 26+ publications in the fields of Pharmacology and Drug discovery that were published in highly prestigious international journals. She also participated with several presentations in both national and international conferences. Dr. Tolba was an invited speaker at TEDx Cairo Women 2017. Dr. Tolba is the founder of “Cancer and the Castle Guardians” an online cancer awareness platform on both Instagram and Facebook. It aims for providing simple cancer awareness and health care advice backed by the latest research and written in both English and Arabic languages.
