Biography
Myrtani holds a PhD in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Oxford, UK and she is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Life Sciences, University of Nicosia. Her research work focuses on Kidney and Gastrointestinal tract physiology. In 2011 Myrtani won the international competition in Science Communication, Famelab, and since then she is devoted in Science Outreach. Myrtani is the co-founder of SciCo-Cyprus, a non-governmental organization based in Cyprus that specializes in communicating scientific issues to the public, with the aim of bridging the gap between science and society.
Additionally, Myrtani is the co-founder of the Science for Peace initiative in Cyprus, which is centered around actions such as the STEAM for PEACE and Entrepreneurship Summer Camp. This initiative utilizes the universal language of science to bridge divides and bring together all communities within the divided country of Cyprus, with a particular focus on engaging the younger generation.
