Luciana Balboa is a Biomedical Researcher in the area of Infectious Diseases at the Institute for Biomedical Research on Retroviruses and AIDS (INBIRS), affiliated with the University of Buenos Aires – CONICET in Argentina. Her team is dedicated to enhancing our fundamental comprehension of the immune response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Over the past years, her focus has been on studying the immunometabolic aspects of tuberculosis. Notably, she established the first French-Argentine International Associated Laboratory devoted to tuberculosis research, particularly in the context of HIV co-infection. Apart from her research commitments, she serves as the current co-president of the Academia Joven de Argentina and is an active member of GYA, both organizations striving to amplify the voices of young scientists worldwide. Furthermore, she holds a position as a board member of CoARA, a global coalition dedicated to reforming Research Assessment practices. Luciana has also served as a member and secretary of the Latin American Society of Tuberculosis and other Mycobacteriosis and participates in international consortiums aimed to foster the discovery of an improved vaccine against tuberculosis and neglected pathogens, such as the Collaboration for TB Vaccine Discovery (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) and the VALIDATE Network (UK).
