The World Economic Forum on Africa (link) meeting is being held in Cape Town from the 4 – 6 September 2019. In partnership with the South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS) and the University of Cape Town (UCT), the GloSYS Africa team and GYA will host a WEF affiliates breakfast session on the 6th of September 2019. Three of the GloSYS Africa champions (Abdeslam Badre, Anna Coussens and Fridah Erastus) will facilitate the session, and while the remaining two (Mona Khoury-Kassabri and Abidemi Akindele) are unable to attend, their involvement has been instrumental in seeing the GloSYS Africa project progressed to this point.
The goal of the session is to give an overview of the results to be published in the final report in late 2019 and engage a range of stakeholders in research and higher education in Africa. The GloSYS Africa champions will present the major findings from their research, and subsequently the initiatives already developed by the GYA and affiliates to address some of these. Building from this they aim to co-design actionable changes to policy, institutional culture, funding mechanisms, and government and business investment that can be implemented and monitored across the major African regions.
