Tthe GYA’s 2022 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and International Conference of Young Scientists successfully concluded on 19 June.
In addition to daily Plenary Sessions and workshops on the topic of “Harmonising Reason with Sensibility”, the Annual General Meeting included the induction of 39 new GYA members, as well as the election of a new Executive Committee.
The new GYA member cohort includes representatives from 24 individual countries, from all GYA general disciplines, and includes 19 females, 19 males and 1 who prefers not to say.
In addition to helping the GYA maintain its gender parity benchmarks, the new member cohort has increased GYA international representation by 2 countries, i.e., Mongolia and Greece.
The GYA now has members or alumni in over 100 countries!
Regarding the new Executive Committee (EC), to represent and lead them through the upcoming year, GYA members elected leaders hailing from North America, Africa, Asia and Europe – a majority of whom are women – to the EC, which is comprised of eleven members, of which two are Co-Chairs.
As Co-Chairs for the upcoming year, members chose Priscilla Kolibea Mante (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana) and Prosper Ngabonziza (Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Germany).
