Regional young academies collaborations:
Africa – Young Academies in Africa are coming together supported by the Network of African Science Academies NASAC.
Americas – Existing Young Academies and young academy initiatives from the region have recently started holding online meetings to exchange on best practices, common challenges, and support the establishment of further young academies in the region.
Asia & Pacific – Young Academies from the region established the Network of Asia-Pacific Young Academies (NAYA) at a hybrid meeting in June 2025.
Europe – Young Academies in Europe have held joint annual meetings ever since 2016. Since 2020, most of them come together in YASAS – the Young Academies Science Advice Structure – to provide science for EU policymaking via the European Commission’s Scientific Advice Mechanism.
In addition to regional collaborations and joint young academy meetings, young academies the world over also come together to work on issues of mutual interest:
- 2019 Declaration on the Guiding Principles of Young Academies
- 2017 Statement on The role of young academies in achieving the UN SDGs
- At-risk scholars initiatives, membership and mentorship programmes; some joint activities by a number of young academies (see here for activities by the GYA, the YA of Scotland, and the Dutch YA)
- 2023 Stockholm Charter for Academic Freedom, led by the Swedish Young Academy
- Young Academies in Europe established YASAS – the Young Academies Science Advice Structure, to become a pillar in SAPEA, to deliver evidence for policy to the European Union, in Dec 2020 (more information on the academy networks and SAPEA here)
- Global working group on Open Science, with members from 40 young academies (currently not active)
- Repository on Covid-19-related young academy activities
