Biography

Born and raised in Canada, Janilyn Arsenio received her PhD in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Manitoba, Canada. She completed her postdoctoral training at the University of California San Diego (UC San Diego) School of Medicine, USA. She is a Canada Research Chair in Systems Biology of Chronic Inflammation and Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine with a cross-appointment in Immunology at the University of Manitoba. Her research studies immune responses during infection and chronic inflammation at the single-cell level. She is involved in local and national women in science and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives, as the Vice-Chair of Women in Science: Development, Outreach, and Mentoring (WISDOM) in Manitoba, a Senior Mentor for University of Manitoba of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research-Institute of Gender and Health Trainee Network, and member of the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences EDI committee, and national societies Canadian Society for Women in Science and Technology and Association for Women in Science. As a Filipino-Canadian, devoted mom, and wife, Janilyn helps to promote greater engagement of underrepresented individuals in science.
