The COVID-19 pandemic vividly illustrated that enough has been said but little is being done about increasing antimicrobial resistance.
Thus, members of the Global Health working group, led by Karen Cloete (University of South Africa) and Pradeep Kumar (WITS University, South Africa), and in collaboration with the Science Education for Youth WG with past co-lead Jane Yau (Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education, Germany), have carried out the Antimicrobial Stewardship project to promote the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improve patient outcomes, reduce microbial resistance, and decrease the spread of infections caused by multi-drug-resistant organisms.
To promote antimicrobial stewardship, project members have released a video (in four languages) to explain the following concepts in antimicrobial stewardship:
- How does antimicrobial resistance develop?
- What is antimicrobial resistance?
- Why is antimicrobial resistance increasing?
- How can we prevent antimicrobial resistance?
You can watch the videos below to gain a better understanding of these concepts.
