The GYA working group on Science Diplomacy in South Asia published an editorial in Science on “Science in South Asia“. The editorial is co-authored by Anindita Bhadra (India) and Uttam Babu Shrestha (Australia). It is based on current ongoing work by the entire working group.
The editorial starts from the observation that the political, economic, and emotional conflicts in South Asia are a frustrating contrast to the promises of the region, and argues that now is the time to reinvent science diplomacy in this region to spur collaborations that can help resolve conflicts that are preventing South Asia from achieving its potential. Science and collaborative research projects can tackle regional problems and encourage a parallel path for improving diplomatic and political relations among countries.
