GYA member Mahesh Kumar held an outreach activity by discussing the Young Scientist Ambassador Programme at a training course for physics teachers at Kendriya Vidyalayas in Jodhpur, India. Around 30 school physics teachers from different schools participated in this programme. The Kendriya Vidyalayas are a system of central government schools in India that were instituted under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The school system is one of the world’s largest with over 1,094 schools in India and three abroad. All the schools are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and a uniform curriculum is followed throughout India.
By providing a common syllabus and system of education, the Kendriya Vidyalayas are intended to ensure that the children of government employees do not face education disadvantages when their parents are transferred from one location to another. The Kendriya Vidyalayas expressed interest to host science ambassadors in the future to improve professional development for their teachers.
