Biography

Alejandra Chavez-Santoscoy is a dedicated Research Assistant Professor at Tecnologico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey, where She is the founder and director of the laboratory Core Lab Genomics. Her research has explored functional food development, nanotechnology applications, and complex biological systems with a strong commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and addressing pressing societal challenges.

Her scientific investigation is focused on examining the functional effects of phenolic compounds and nutraceuticals, which involves both in vitro and in vivo models, as well as clinical studies. Her novel approach involves the sustainable utilization of agro-industrial waste to produce functional food, taking advantage of cutting-edge nanotechnology and multi-omics data analysis techniques.

Alejandra is a crucial figure within the International Bionanotechnology Network, specifically focused on food sustainability, and is crucial in shaping the discussion about innovative solutions to global food challenges. Her pioneering work on a Functional Bread targeting chronic diseases has earned her international recognition and recognition, including the prestigious Innovators under 35 LatAm 2017 Recognition by MIT Technology Review.

Beyond her research accolades, Alejandra is a catalyst for social change within the scientific community. She actively contributes to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.

Moreover, Alejandra’s commitment to promoting gender equality in STEM is exemplified through her pivotal role as the founder of the OWSD (Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World) Mexico Committee in 2021, and her current position as its President. Through her leadership, the committee aims to amplify the contributions of women in STEM fields, while spearheading initiatives to mitigate inequality and promote equity.

Alejandra’s commitment to mentoring and advising the next generation of scientists goes beyond her leadership roles, having mentored many students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She is a visionary leader in both academia and social impact due to her unwavering dedication to advancing scientific knowledge and her advocacy for inclusivity and equality.
