Biography
I am an assistant professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine in the Division of Health and Biomedical Informatics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. I hold a BA in International Business Management (2013 – Eindhoven, the Netherlands), an MA in Applied Ethics (2016 – Utrecht, the Netherlands) and a PhD in Research Ethics and Integrity (2021- Dublin, Ireland). In September 2021, I moved from Europe to Chicago to start a postdoctoral project under the mentorship of Professor Kristi Holmes, and was recruited to Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine as assistant professor in December 2023.
Within Northwestern, I collaborate extensively with the Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (NUCATS) and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (I.AIM) on topics related to technology ethics, including artificial intelligence (AI). Externally, I am involved in, and lead various ethics projects in national and international organizations (e.g., Association of Professional and Practical Ethics, National Information Standards Organization, National Academy of Sciences and Global Young Academy). Furthermore, I teach research ethics and integrity in the context of humanities and social sciences as well as health science research for various institutions in the US (e.g., Illinois Institute of Technology, Rockefeller University) and Europe (e.g., Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam).
I am fascinated by the ethics of employing technologies such as AI and generative AI in research and have attempted to understand their implications for the research process, data integrity, transparency, and societal impact.
