The aim of the DAAD Alumni International Conference is to throw light on the challenges young African scholars are facing and to draw a roadmap towards overcoming these challenges and thus living up to their full potential. This year’s conference took place in Nairobi, Kenya from 1 March to 3 March 2019. The GloSYS Africa team was invited to participate, so members Abdeslam Badre (Germany), Anna Coussens (Australia), Mona Khoury-Kassabri (Israel) and Fridah Erastus (Kenya) along with the GYA alumnus Abidemi Akindele (Nigeria) travelled to Nairobi.
The team was allotted two time slots during the two and a half day conference. One was a poster session in which they were able to present the GYA as an organisation as well as the GloSYS project. The other was a one-hour panel session to present the preliminary results of the GloSYS Africa Study. Additionally, Fridah delivered a keynote speech on the first day of the conference.
The organisers as well as more than sixty conferees, most of whom showed discernible interests in knowing more and applying to the GYA membership, showed much appreciation for the GloSYS Africa project.
