The GYA’s mission is to give a voice to young scientists worldwide. We are therefore very happy – together with all young academies the world over – to welcome the 51st young academy: the Young Academy of Ireland (YAI) was launched by the Royal Irish Academy in July 2022 (see a current list of young academies on this map).
The YAI will provide a cross-disciplinary platform that can allow early-career researchers to contribute effectively to the development of all-island research and cultural life, to ensure that they are adequately represented and actively participate in discussions that address global issues and brings together early-career researchers to work collaboratively on some of the most pressing current issues. The Young Academy will focus on a broad range of programmes to promote multidisciplinary experiences, develop networks, provide mentoring and peer support, engage in policy debate, respond to societal challenges, and foster international and interdisciplinary collaboration.
This new Academy will also engage in outreach activities, help to improve public understanding of how research works and contributes to societal benefits and strengthen high level skills among early-career researchers.
The Young Academy of Ireland will create a platform for early-career researchers of all ages from many different sectors and backgrounds, to share ideas and develop thinking on significant and challenging issues and actively participate in discussions that address global issues.
The call for their first cohort of members is now open. Individuals who are interested in inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration, have a record of outstanding achievement and, above all, are motivated and prepared to make a serious commitment to the objectives of the YAI will be considered for membership. Details about the application process can be found here.
