Noble Banadda

Biography

Noble Banadda sadly passed away in 2021.

Banadda was a professor and the Chair of the Department of Agricultural and BioSystems Engineering, Makerere University Kampala (Uganda). Noble held a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (2006); M.Sc. in Processing Engineering (2001); Post graduate Diploma in Processing Engineering (2000) of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) and B.Sc. Food Science and Technology (1998) of the Sokoine University of Agriculture (Tanzania). In August 2012, Noble had been appointed a full professor at the age of 37 years, the first ever in the department of Agricultural and BioSystems Engineering and the only one to-date. In 2007, Noble had won the Cochran Fellowship to do postdoctoral studies in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA). He was the youngest fellow of Uganda National Academy of Sciences (2013) and the only person to qualify to be in both the young and senior academy in Uganda, a fellow of the Global Young Academy (2013) and mostly recent among only 7 Africans (in Africa and the Diaspora) that qualified as fellows of the prestigious award of the Next Einstein Fellowship 2015. He was also a fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences. In September 2014, Noble was honored young Scientist at the Annual meeting of New Champions, World Economic Forum, Tianjin, Peoples’ Republic of China. He served as the interim president of Uganda Young Academy Chapter.
He has served as a visiting professor in universities in Africa, Europe and USA. Noble had field experience with respect to design and operation wastewater activated sludge systems, anaerobic digestion of wastewaters and sludges and bioremediation processes of soils. He had also gained experience in various aspects of mathematical modeling of bioprocesses, food processing Engineering and biosystems. Noble had been appointed member of 7 Ph.D. supervision teams; had supervised over 17 completed graduate theses and had thus authored 80 peer reviewed scientific papers in reputable international journals; 30 peer reviewed international proceedings with a citation H-Index of 15, i10-Index of 23 and 672 citations as of July 24, 2015. Globally, Noble had been ranked 35th and 2nd in Africa according to Google Scholar rankings in waste management research.
