A two-part online workshop “Inclusive Leadership for Women in Science” was held earlier this month, organized by the GYA Women in Science working group, and designed in partnership with the facilitation team at Inclusive Innovation. The workshops built on past GYA Inclusive Leadership workshops (read more about these workshops here), which focused on empathy, (self-)awareness and inclusive practices in research contexts. With a particular focus on leadership for Women in Science, these interactive workshops aimed to empower women in research, and all those interested in supporting them.
Altogether over 70 participants benefitted from the interactive sessions which explored several methods and tools to help young scientists make informed decisions related to career challenges they face.
Workshop descriptions, as well as recordings and resources, are available below. The GYA is to produce illustrated outputs for anyone who participated in the workshops, and for those who could not participate, to apply these tools in their lives.
“I learned how to make sense of and address the challenges I face in balancing career priorities in a systematic manner through the perspective of polarities.” – Helen Eenmaa (University of Tartu, Estonia, member of European Young Academies Science Advice Structure)
“I liked the peer to peer discussions. It reminded me that you can always talk to others, and there is always something new to learn.” – Priscilla Kolibea Mante (Immediate past GYA Co-Chair, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana)
Workshop 1: Finding Balance
In the demanding field of science, young researchers often find themselves pulled in multiple directions, balancing professional ambitions with personal commitments. This workshop offers a professional application of the polarity thinking approach to help you achieve balance in various aspects of your life.

Workshop 2: Strategic Skills for Researchers
Young researchers frequently need to make critical choices that can have a profound impact on their professional and personal lives. This, paired with the tendency to be self-reliant and a reluctance to seek help, creates a need for tools and skills that allow the strategic navigation of these (often complex and uncomfortable) spaces.
