Biography

Dr. Oscar Xavier Guerrero Gutiérrez is the co-president of the Academia Joven de México and is currently a postdoctoral researcher in science-policy interface at Cinvestav, Mexico. With a Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences, his technical background includes developing software to integrate machine learning into computational chemistry. Today, he leverages this analytical foundation to bridge the gap between scientific evidence and actionable policy. This is reflected in his role as the Technical Coordinator for the Science Diplomacy Network for the Gulf of California, where he facilitates cross-sector initiatives focused on regional policy.

Beyond his direct research and policy work, Oscar is deeply committed to Open Science and advocates for a fundamental shift in the academic ecosystem. He aims to dismantle the barriers imposed by the traditional science communication system and transition institutional metrics from competition to collaboration. He shares his vision for an open, transparent scientific ecosystem and the reform of research assessment as a speaker at international forums, and participates in initiatives to improve scientific development through the Mexican Association for the Advancement of Science (AMEXAC).
