Biography

Dr. Oscar Xavier Guerrero GutiƩrrez is the co-president of the Mexican Young Academy and a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Chemistry at Cinvestav, Mexico, where he develops Python-based tools to integrate Machine Learning into computational chemistry research. His current work focuses on applying these methods to the study of chemical reactivity, making complex computational techniques more accessible and efficient for chemists.

Beyond his research, Oscar is deeply committed to Open Science and advocates for a fundamental shift in scientific publishing, aiming to dismantle barriers imposed by traditional journal systems. Through his work with the Mexican Association for the Advancement of Science, he participates in initiatives to improve scientific development in Mexico.

Oscar has received training in science advising, equipping him with the skills to communicate scientific evidence effectively to policymakers. As a speaker at international scientific forums such as CILAC, he shares his vision for an open and transparent scientific ecosystem and the reform of research assessment.

Fluent in Spanish and English, and proficient in French, Oscar enjoys learning languages such as Russian and Japanese. In his free time, he reads graphical novels and plays strategy board games and indie video games.
