The Nigerian Young Academy has begun a campaign against plagiarism among researchers in the country by organising workshops to create awareness on the dangers of this academic pitfall. Some of the initial efforts on this were captured by science journalist Linda Nordling in an article that appeared in Science.
At the end of August 2018, the Nigerian Young Academy also held its 8th Conference and General Assembly. This year’s conference had the theme “Multidisciplinary research: a cornerstone for sustainable development” and through the IAP African Academies Diaspora Fellows Programme, the academy was able to host Professor David Mba from De Montfort University, UK, as the keynote speaker. During the event, 5 members exited the Academy after their 5-year tenure as members, and 11 new members were inducted. This brings the total number of current membership to 42.
