Biography

I was graduated with Honours and Masters Degrees in Microbiology from the University of Dhaka, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1994and 1995 respectively. In the Master’s level, I adopted various sophisticated immunological techniques as an approach togain insight into the distribution of immunoglobulin isotypes and their subclasses in clinical samples of patients with cholera. In my PhD work, what I obtained from UMIST, Manchester, UK, regulation of eukaryotic translation by 5′ cap-dependent manner was studied. This study was further substantiated in my post-doctoral work at McGill University, Canada where I worked on poly-A tail dependent translation regulation in mammalian system. Currently, I am working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Here my research focuses on the isolation and identification of causative agents for vibriosis affecting penaeid shrimp. To control diseases in shrimp aquaculture, we are looking for probiotic bacteria isolated from indigenous environment that would completely substitute the use of antibiotics in the aquaculture, thereby ensure food safety.
