Biography

Dr. Jai Prakash is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics, Aligarh Muslim University. He joined the department on September 2015. Prior to join AMU, he has worked as an Assistant Professor at Centre for Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda for more than 2 years. His research background involves Soft condensed matter physics, Non-linear optics of colloidal suspension, Liquid crystal based applications. He got his B.Sc. from Agra University in 2001. He received his M.Sc. in 2003 from Aligarh Muslim University Aligarh. He later worked as a CSIR-JRF at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and CSIR – National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi on various research projects including dielectric and electro-optical properties of ferroelectric liquid crystals, optical devices based on liquid crystals etc.

In 2010, he completed his Ph.D. in area of effect of nanomaterials on the electro-optical properties of ferroelectric liquid crystals and their applications from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. After his doctoral thesis, he joined United States Air Force Office of Scientific Research (USAFOSR) Postdoctoral Scholarship at San Francisco State University, San Francisco, USA. There, he worked with Prof. Zhigang Chen on nonlinear optical properties of colloidal suspensions.

Dr. Prakash has published one academic book, 65 research papers in leading international journals. He has 4 patents (2 Granted and 2 filed) to his credit. The citation of his published papers is more than 2000 and h-index is 21 (As per Scopus and Web of Science). He has presented his research in 64 National/International conferences/workshops/seminar. He has also qualified various national level examinations (such as CSIR-UGC NET, GATE, JEST, UPSLET etc.)

In 2012, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India awarded him with prestigious INSPIRE Faculty award. This research award gives five years of funding (35 Lakhs, 7 Lakhs per annum). He joined his INSPIRE Faculty Award at CSIR – National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi and pursued research work on ”Exploration of electro-optical properties of nano-materials doped ferroelectric liquid crystals and their application in the fabrication of optical devices”.

He is also the recipient of Young Scientist Award under Science and Engineering Research Board Fast Track Scheme for young scientists in physical sciences by Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi, India.

In the year 2020, he has become the member of Indian National Young Academy of Science (INYAS), Indian National Science Academy (INSA), New Delhi.

In year 2021, he has been awarded the membership of National Academy of Sciences (NASI) Allahabad.

Recently, he has been awarded with a Bronze Medal Award by the Indian Liquid Crystal Society (ILCS), Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), Bengaluru for hos contributions to the study of Liquid Crystal and their applications.
