A full report on the 2023 International Conference of Young Scientists and GYA Annual General Meeting is available here.
In June 2023, the GYA, in collaboration with the Rwanda Young Academy of Science (RYAS), convened its members and alumni along with early-career researchers (ECRs), students, and science policy stakeholders from Rwanda and around the world to address the Conference topic “Technological Innovations for Discovering Solutions to the World’s Greatest Challenges.”
Under the premise that the global community of researchers has a collective responsibility to contribute to a sustainable future, conference participants discussed challenges and potentials of innovations and new technologies, and their responsible and effective use.
The resulting GYA-RYAS joint statement contains recommendations on achieving global vaccine equity, fostering Young Academies, and ensuring community involvement and youth engagement in the conceptualization and application of emerging technologies. Altogether, ECRs play a pivotal role in this sphere by championing interdisciplinary, international research approaches, responsible research practices, Open Science and creative science communication.
