The GYA is pleased to announce the appointment of Irene Friesenhahn as Project Officer for “The Global State of Young Scientists” project. Irene gained experience in several fields of science studies, for instance in scientific communication, academic careers, disciplinary cultures, innovation and the analysis of scientific impact. Before joining the GYA, Irene was a research associate with the Rectors’ Conference of the Swiss Universities in a project focusing on innovative concepts and instruments to describe and compare research output in the social sciences and humanities. She is currently completing her PhD in which she explores how the social and intellectual organization of academic disciplines influence communication structures, citation patterns and even shape academic careers. Irene is looking forward to working with the GYA to evaluate the current state of knowledge on young researchers around the world.
