GYA- Members participated in the Young Scientists Programme of IAP and discussed the theme of the meeting – “Creating the Future Economy”.
The Annual Meeting of the New Champions – also known as “Summer Davos” – 2012 was held on 10-15 September 2012 in Tianjin, People’s Republic of China. More than 2,000 stakeholders from more than 90 countries met to discuss the theme of the meeting – “Creating the Future Economcy”.
A total of 34 young scientists from 18 countries participated, among them 5 members from the Global Young Academy (GYA). The participants could choose from among 115 official sessions, covering very diverse topics ranging from health, education, society, population growth, poverty, advancement in science and technology, politics and many more.
In accordance to the mission of the World Economic Forum – to improve the state of the world – the young scientists participated in different sessions and discussed ideas and opportunities for solving present day challenges.
The feedback of the participants highlight the close and meaningful interactions with other communities than the science community. Furthermore the entire setting is considered to be beneficial to further the careers as well as to broaden the horizon of the scientists in general.
A quote from a participant sums up this fascinating experience:
“The World Economic Forum is not a conference, instead it is a community!”
