His study addressed diverse aspects of molecular archaeology and population genetics, during the first year he managed to carry out a unique study on genetic patterns of Y-chromosome and mitochondrial DNA variation, with implications to the peopling of Africa’s Sahel and East Africa, and according to the potential scientific value of the data his registration has been upgraded to the degree of doctoral of philosophy. He was awarded his PhD in molecular genetics in 2009. He worked in several Sudanese universities and research institutions, and has long standing research collaborations with The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute – UK; Max Planck Institute – Germany; Radboud University – NL; and National Institute of Genetics – Japan, on genetic diversity of East African populations, human migrations and infectious evolutionary pressure on human genome. Currently he is a senior molecular geneticist at Banoon ART and Cytogenetics Centre, Bahrain Royal Medical Service, a co-founder member of both the Global Young Academy, and the Sudanese Academy of Young Scientists (SAYS).
