Several GYA members were honored to take part in the Falling Walls Science Summit 24, including Antonia Morita Saktiawati (Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia), who won in the Women’s Impact Award category for her work helping to make Tuberculosis screening more inclusive and holistic. Immediate Past Co-Chair Priscilla Kolibea Mante (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana) was a member of the Falling Walls Engage Jury helping select the Science Engagement Project of the Year.
Antonia said “Receiving the Falling Walls Women’s Impact Award was an emotional moment. This award is a testament to our collective efforts to make TB screening more inclusive and holistic. My heartfelt thanks go out to my incredible research team and our invaluable participants, whose dedication has made this possible. I hope that our work will contribute to the elimination of TB – an ancient disease that has haunted humanity for more than 3,000 years.”

Further, GYA Executive Committee member Sri Fatmawati (Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Indonesia) took part in the Falling Walls Female Science Talent Panel Discussion “Exploring Female Leadership in a Global Perspective – Navigating Challenges & Driving Change”.
In addition to those mentioned above, several GYA members and Office staff attended Falling Walls, including Hanjo Hamann (EBS University of Business and Law, Germany), Encieh Erfani (Mainz University, Germany), Carina Geldhauser (ETH Zurich, Switzerland), alumni Ghada Bassioni (Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Egypt) and Sameh Soror (Helwan University, Egypt). and GYA Managing Director Beate Wagner. Former Advisory Board member Ulrike Albrecht also attended.
