German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina Annual Assembly 2025 – Artificial Intelligence

The Annual Assembly of The German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina – the GYA’s host academy – provides a space for exchange, interdisciplinary perspectives, and critical engagement. It is aimed at all those interested in the opportunities and limits of Artificial Intelligence – in scientific research as well as in the broader societal context.

This event will bring together renowned experts from various scientific disciplines to explore the latest advances in AI research, as well as its applications and societal implications. Discussions will cover technological breakthroughs and concrete use of AI – for example, in medicine, life sciences, earth and climate research, and physics. A central question throughout will be: what responsibilities come with the development and use of this technology?

In addition to perspectives from the natural and technical sciences, the event will also include reflections from the humanities and social sciences: What ethical questions are raised by the use of AI? How do AI-automated decision-making processes affect democratic discourse? And what does it mean when machine systems begin to take on tasks that were previously considered inherently human?

Registration available here. Deadline is 5 September.
