The next ALLEA General Assembly will celebrate the organisation’s 30th anniversary and will take place in Berlin, Germany, 22-23 May 2024.
The central part of the event, a public symposium themed ‘European Research Collaboration in a Shifting Geopolitical Landscape: How Open Can We Be?’, will take place on 22 May from 18:30 – 20:30 CEST at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, followed by a festive reception. The event is co-hosted by the German National Academy of Sciences – Leopoldina, the German Young Academy – Die Junge Akademie, and the Union of the German Academies of Sciences and Humanities.
Building on the successful experience of the ALLEA General Assembly in 2022, the 2024 meeting will for the second time include a joint programme with delegates from Europe’s national and transnational Young Academies (ENYA) to engage in an intergenerational dialogue on international research collaboration in general, and cooperation between academies in particular. The GYA will be represented by YASAS delegate and member of the 2023/24 EC Markus Prutsch (European Parliament, Austria) and YASAS Observer and co-lead of the UN SDG Incubator group Stella Tsani (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece), as well as GYA Senior Project Officer Anna-Maria Gramatté, and a number of GYA members will participate wearing their respective national young academy hats.
Additionally, delegates of ALLEA Member Academies are invited to an internal business meeting in the morning of 22 May 2024. On 23 May, Science Advice for Policy by European Academies (SAPEA) will organise two workshops for both ALLEA and ENYA delegates, focusing on academy collaboration in scientific advice and promoting diversity, inclusiveness, and Early/Mid-Career Researchers’ involvement in scientific advisory bodies.
