Biography
Dr. Erna Karalija obtained her B.Sc, Masters and PhD degree in Plant physiology from the Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She was employed by the Faculty in 2008 as Professors’ assistant and junior researcher. In 2018 she took position of an associate professor at Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo. Her major areas of expertise are bioactive potential of plants, production of secondary metabolites and responses of plants to abiotic stress. She is a member of several scientific societies such as Biochemical society UK, and is one of the directors and treasury of International Consortium of Research Staff Associations (ICoRSA). Her scientific contribution has been recognised by Ministry of Education, science and Youth Canton Sarajevo, and she has been awarded several times for her publications (2014, 2016, 2019). In 2019 she has been also awarded by University Sarajevo as one of the Universities’ significant researchers. Erna has been a PI on numerous projects funded by international and national funding bodies. She is supervising large number of undergraduate and master students, and a PhD student in collaboration with other departments and research institutes. Beside her scientific interests she is also focused on public engagement and participates in large number of workshops for kids, educational lectures and is actively involved in advocating for Young researchers.
