“Not everything can be taught but anything can be learned!” – Albus D. Hoang
Biography
Dr. Duc Hoang is a Research Fellow at RMIT University Vietnam and Director-General of the Sky-Line Education System, a pioneering K-12 school with five campuses in Danang and Hoi An, Vietnam. He is also the former Founding Director and former Principal Investigator of Teaching and Learning at EdLab Asia. Over the last decade, he has significantly contributed to the development of new educational policies through his work with Vietnamese government bodies and local and international NGOs. Furthermore, he initiated a free learning community for over 40,000 K–12 teachers. In those communities, a sizable number of social and educational initiatives have been established.
Dr. Duc Hoang pursued his PhD from RMIT University Vietnam, with a focus on knowledge management and educational leadership, and his Master in Management from Maastricht School of Management, Maastricht University, the Netherlands. He also holds a CSML (Certificate of School Management and Leadership) from Harvard Graduate School of Education and Harvard Business School. Dr. Hoang has authored and co-authored 25 scholarly publications on educational leadership, curriculum development, and teacher professional development, published in ISI/Scopus-indexed journals. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he demonstrated exceptional foresight and leadership by advocating for digital transformation in education before it became a widespread necessity, strategizing and implementing measures to mitigate the pandemic’s impact on education. Additionally, he initiated the “Handbook of Mental Health during Disease,” which reached over 3,500 schools and universities in Vietnam. Also, his research during this period on sustainable learning, teacher satisfaction, and online teaching effectiveness provided valuable insights that have been widely cited by scholars developing frameworks for education in crises. Dr. Hoang’s contributions to teacher and community development have been featured as a case study on teacher development in a Professional Development course offered by the Right Question Institute and Harvard Graduate School of Education (October 2023).
Throughout his career, Dr. Duc Hoang collaborates with the Vietnam Ministry of Education & Training, UNICEF, and the British Council to influence educational legislation, agendas, and frameworks. He chaired the Vietnam Symposium of Sustainable Development (2022) and co-established the first Science of Learning course in collaboration with Columbia University and Fulbright University Vietnam. He is also a Fellow of the UNESCO Chair on Technology and Engineering Education for Children and Youth, Grand Award Judge of Regeneron ISEF 2024, Board Member of the Global Young Vietnamese Scholars Network, and Editorial Member of several journals (On the Horizon: The International Journal of Learning Futures, PLOS One, The Learning Organization, Journal of Comparative and International Higher Education). He also serves as a member of the Advisory Board for British Council Vietnam (2023) and has been elected as the Community Lead for Asia & Southeast Asia by HundrED (2022-present), working to elevate educational innovations across the region.
