I completed my BSc (Hons) in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, University of the Punjab, Pakistan with distinction (Gold Medalist). During BSc (hons) I worked on cloning, expression and purification of preS region of HBV in E.coli. In 2006 I joined School of Biological Sciences (SBS), University of the Punjab for my PhD and established Cell Biology lab at SBS. My initial work was on effect of environmental toxicants on growth and morphology of animal cells.
In 2008 I got the opportunity to work in USA at Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences, CA. I worked on yeast expression system to express therapeutic protein with Prof. James Cregg and on two stem cells related projects with Prof. Ian Phillips. In 2009 I received best young investigator award on my work on cardiac stem cells differentiation by Pakistan cardiac society. Currently I am working on mesenchymal stem cells isolation and differentiation under the supervision of Prof. A.R. Shakoori. So far I have joined more than 35 national and international conferences, workshops and symposia.
I joined Sciforum Pakistan in 2004. Sciforum Pakistan is Pakistan’s first internet based discussion forum on life sciences. I served as President Sciforum for 4 years (2006-2010) and now a days I am working as Chief-Coordinator. Realizing the fact that there should be a forum for all Pakistani young researchers I laid the foundation of National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS) with the help of other colleagues. The basic purpose of NAYS is to promote Science and Technology in Pakistan through collaborative effort of young researchers working in Pakistan and overseas. Currently I am serving as President of National Academy of Young Scientists.
