About the Buddy Programme

The GYA’s “buddy programme” connects newly accepted members with experienced GYA members. Buddies help welcome and provide orientation to new GYA members, encourage them to attend their first AGM, and to get involved actively in GYA projects.

We invite you to volunteer as a “buddy” for this purpose. Outgoing members are particularly encouraged to volunteer! This is an exciting opportunity to ensure that new members get to know the GYA spirit of openness and collaboration right from the time of their selection.

Buddies are expected to:
• Reach out to and support their new member buddy:  first via email, then possibly via an online meeting to answer any questions and exchange experience.

• Encourage your new member buddy to attend the AGM by talking about your own experiences at previous AGMs, and answering any questions you can, e.g. about co-funding options if relevant.
• Help your buddy get the most out of the AGM by introducing your buddy to other members.
• If your buddy can’t make the AGM, meet with them afterwards, fill them in, and help them connect with an existing project or committee.

To be selected as a buddy you must:
• Have attended at least 1 (e)AGM in the last 5 years.

• Have your GYA website profile updated.
• Have experience as a member of one or more working groups, project teams or committees.
