Royal Society Milner Award

The Milner Award is awarded annually to recognise an outstanding European computer scientist, someone who has made a substantial contribution to computer science and who is likely to go on to further top-level achievement.

The Royal Society invites all researchers to nominate exceptional individuals and teams for this accolade, and to encourage others within the computer science community to do the same. You do not need to be a Fellow of the Royal Society to be nominated for this award.

The Milner Award and Lecture is part of the Royal Society’s annual medals and awards programme. There are 27 medals and awards open for nominations in this annual cycle, celebrating excellence across the biological, physical and applied sciences. Of these, 11 medals and awards are accompanied by prize lectures.

To find out more about how to make a nomination for the Milner Award, you can register to attend the nominations guidance webinar on Thursday 29 January 2026.
