The GYA community has been deeply saddened to learn about the passing of GYA alumni Noble Banadda (Makerere University, Uganda).
Noble was a member of the GYA from 2013-2018, and was a truly gifted scientist. Among his many achievements, he was the first African recipient of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences Pius XI award.
Noble participated in the first African National Young Academy meeting in Kenya, and as a member of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences, Noble also supported the founding of the Uganda National Young Academy in 2015.
He was also a member of the GYA’s Solid Waste Management and Green Economy working group, and contributed a case study to the group’s Municipal Solid Waste Management and Green Economy report (2016).
Noble was a professor and the Chair of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Makerere University Kampala from 2012 until his passing.
We, his colleagues and friends at the GYA, gratefully acknowledge the impact that Noble had on us, and offer our condolences to his family during their time of grief.
