Biography

Dr. Santosh Kumar Gupta is a Scientific Officer (F) at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and an Assistant Professor at the Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai. His research focuses on the design and development of novel optical materials, with applications in energy conversion, solid-state lighting, sensors, and bioimaging. He also specializes in the photophysical and defect analysis of phosphors using advanced spectroscopic techniques.
Dr. Gupta has authored 293 peer-reviewed journal articles, accumulating over 9,200 citations, with an h-index of 56 and an i-10 index of 200. He is a recipient of several prestigious young scientist medals, including those from the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Chirantan Rasayan Sanstha (CRS), Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and Allied Scientists (IANCAS), Society of Materials Chemistry (SMC), and the MRSI Medal (2024) from the Materials Research Society of India.
He is a Fellow of the Fulbright Program (USA) and JSPS (Japan), and an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), UK; Institute of Physics (FInstP), UK; Maharashtra Academy of Sciences (FMASc), India; Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM), UK; and Asia Pacific Academy of Materials (FAPAM), Asia-Pacific region, reflecting his distinguished standing in the international scientific community.
His election to scientific bodies like the Indian National Science Academy – Indian National Young Academy of Science (INSA-INYAS), National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), and the Global Young Academy (GYA) underscores his standing in the scientific community.
Dr. Gupta is also a highly respected educator and mentor. He served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Nanoparticle Research, and as Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports and Methods and Applications in Fluorescence. . He has received recognition from the Royal Society of Chemistry for being among the top 10% most-cited authors and from the International Centre for Diffraction Data (ICDD) for contributions to the JCPDS, Powder Diffraction File.
He was ranked among the top 2% most influential scientists worldwide from 2020 to 2025, based on Scopus publication impact, as compiled by Prof. John PA Ioannidis of Stanford University and published by Elsevier. Dr. Gupta hasserved  as an Associate Editor for Journal of Nanoparticle Research (Springer Nature 2024-25), and an Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports (Nature 2024-25).
