Biography
Dr. Santosh Kumar Gupta is a Scientific Officer (F) at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and an Assistant Professor at the Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai. His research focuses on the design and development of novel optical materials, with applications in energy conversion, solid-state lighting, sensors, and bioimaging. He also specializes in the photophysical and defect analysis of phosphors using advanced spectroscopic techniques.
Dr. Gupta has authored 272 peer-reviewed journal papers, garnering over 7,500 citations, an h-index of 54, and an i-10 index of 163. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Fulbright Fellowship, Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) Fellowship, JSPS Fellowship, and the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and Scientific India Young Scientist Award. He has also been recognized with the Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and Allied Scientists (IANCAS) Medal, Society of Materials Chemistry (SMC) Bronze Medal, Fulbright Outreach Lecturing Fund (OLF) Award, and Chirantan Rasayan Sanstha (CRS) Silver Medal.
In 2024, Dr. Gupta was honored with the MRSI Medal, one of India’s most prestigious awards for significant contributions to materials science, by the Materials Research Society of India. He holds memberships with the Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INSA-INYAS), the National Academy of Sciences (NASI, Allahabad), and the Maharashtra Academy of Sciences (MASc, Pune). He was also selected as a member of the Global Young Academy (GYA), Berlin, Germany, for 2024.
Dr. Gupta is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), the Indian Chemical Society (FICS), and the Maharashtra Academy of Science (FMASc). He has received recognition from the Royal Society of Chemistry for being among the top 10% most-cited authors and from the International Centre for Diffraction Data (ICDD) for contributions to the JCPDS, Powder Diffraction File.
He was ranked among the top 2% most influential scientists worldwide from 2020 to 2023, based on Scopus publication impact, as compiled by Prof. John PA Ioannidis of Stanford University and published by Elsevier. Dr. Gupta also serves as an Associate Editor for Journal of Nanoparticle Research (Springer Nature), a Guest Editor for Small (Wiley), and an Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports (Nature) and Methods and Applications in Fluorescence (IOP).
