GYA EC member Mitsunobu Kano and several GYA members attended the Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum from 5-7 October 2014 in Kyoto, Japan.
The STS Forum brings together scholars and researchers with science ministers, business leaders, heads of universities, academies and other science organizations and media leaders from all over the world to meet and discuss science and technology issues in the 21st century. For the first time Young Leaders were invited to this strictly by-invitation- only meeting, including GYA EC member Mitsunobu Kano from Japan and 4 other GYA members from different countries alongside 30 further young scientists, all nominated by their science societies. This meeting was a valuable forum for discussions with leading academics and decision makers on topics of importance for the GYA such as research integrity, multidisciplinarity, open access and the importance of education. Our EC member had a brilliant chance for high level networking with Academy Presidents and Funding Bodies as he was allowed to join their respective meetings.
The GYA would like to thank Nationale Akademie der Wissenschaften Leopoldina for their support and Mitsunobu Kano for attending!
