Biography
Dr. Ryota Matsuyama is a Lecturer in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Rakuno Gakuen University in Japan, as well as a veterinarian and an expert in animal health. His research focuses particularly on the epidemiology of infectious diseases shared between livestock and wildlife, as well as the effectiveness of outbreak control measures such as vaccination and culling. Since wildlife health is also linked to their conservation and disease prevention in humans (i.e., prevention of zoonosis), assessing the population health of wildlife is another key aspect of his research. His institution has been designated as a Collaborating Centre for Food Hygiene by the World Organization for Animal Health, and he works as a member in collaborative research projects with countries in Asia and Africa aimed at ensuring dairy hygiene and livestock health management.
Dr. Matsuyama has been a member of the Young Academy of the Science Council of Japan since 2024. He also serves as the secretary of the Epidemiology Section of the Japanese Society of Veterinary Science and the Wildlife Disease Association Asia-Pacific. Through his work, he strives to contribute to food production, wildlife conservation, and public health in humans.
