Biography

Prof. Raspail Carrel Founou is the Vice-Dean in charge of Research and Cooperation, Scientific Coordinator of the Doctoral School (Dschang School of Health and Life Sciences), and an Associate Professor in Medical Microbiology at the University of Dschang, Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences, within the Department of Microbiology, Hematology, and Immunology. He also coordinates the Master’s Program in Clinical Pathology and has served as the Departmental Research Coordinator for the past three years.

He is the General Director of the CEDBCAM Clinical Laboratory and Research Institute, which comprises several specialized units, including Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (ReMARCH) and Antimicrobial Resistance and Infectious Diseases (ARID), among others. His research expertise spans genomic surveillance of bacterial antimicrobial resistance (AMR) responsible for hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) and foodborne pathogens, using the One Health approach. He is also dedicated to empowering the next generation of scientists through access to state-of-the-art technologies, advanced scientific training, and the development of multiple PhD and Master’s programs aligned with international standards.

His current projects are focused on next-generation sequencing (NGS) capacity building and genomic surveillance of ESKAPEE pathogens responsible for HAIs and sepsis within a One Health framework. In addition, he is strongly committed to tackling challenges related to HAIs by developing new biocidal compounds and rapid diagnostic tools for the early detection of resistant ESKAPEE pathogens.

Prof. Founou is recognized for his innovation, dynamism, and leadership, demonstrating strong motivation, diligence, and teamwork that lead to impactful scientific outcomes. Proficient in molecular microbiology, bioinformatics, and statistical analysis, he also possesses programming skills in Python and knowledge of microfluidic technologies. Moreover, he contributes to the scientific community as a member of the editorial boards of several high-impact journals.
