Biography

Dr. Olumuyiwa Asaolu obtained a B.Sc in Civil Engineering from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in 1991, and did his national service with the Army Engineers in 1992. Thereafter, he returned to UNILAG to earn an M.Sc degree in Engineering Analysis in 1995. After a brief stint with Zentech International Nigeria Limited as a trainee engineer, he joined the engineering faculty at UNILAG as an Assistant Lecturer and enrolled for doctoral studies. He was an international exchange graduate student at the Industrial Engineering department of the University of Oklahoma, USA between January and June, 1999. He developed the award winning Lingua software (first word processor and translator for Nigerian languages) and emerged the Best Software Developer at the 5th Nigerian Software Exhibition in 2001. He also became the first person to earn a PhD in Engineering Analysis from a Nigerian university in 2002. His thesis titled “An intelligent path planner for autonomous mobile robots” was aUNILAG entry and finalist in the ‘Best PhD Thesis Competition’ organized by the Nigerian Universities Commission in 2003. Dr. Asaolu was a postdoctoral scholar and lecturer at the Industrial & Information Engineering department of the University of Tennessee, USA between November 2003 and October 2005. He is presently a Senior Lecturer in Systems Engineering at UNILAG and was named the Faculty Best Researcher for 2007. He is a recipient of the IAP 2009 Award for Young Scientists. His research interests, expertise and publications span mathematical & engineering modeling, artificial intelligence, information technology and project management. He is a member of the Nigerian Computer Society, the Institute of Industrial Engineers (USA) and a Fellow of the Institute for Operations Research of Nigeria.
