Biography


Dr. Engr. Naim Rashid is a Fulbright Research Scientist at Arizona State University, USA. He also works as Associate Professor National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Pakistan. Prior to this role, he worked as a Research Scholar at University of California, San Diego, USA and University of Leipzig, Germany. Early on, he served as Assistant Professor of Environmental Sciences at Quaid-i-Azam University, Pakistan.
Naim earned PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Republic of Korea. He trained himself as an Environmental Engineer and passionate to work on Energy-Water-Environmental Resource Conservation nexus. He has particular interest in waste-to-energy technologies to promote environmental sustainability and green economy. To this end, he has developed expertise in bioprocess, biochemical, and microbiological engineering to work on wastewater ecology, water treatment, algal biotechnology and bio-refinery, microbial fuel cell, and bio-remediation.  More recently, he is working onto a theme “Resource recovery from wastewater for value added bio-refinery products and to support bio-economy”.
Prevailing aggravated yet interrelated issues in his native country (Pakistan) on energy, health and environmental management inspired him to select these themes for future research He is a strong believer of social engagement, capacity building, and collaborative work. He is keen to translate social and industrial problems into research, and to promote industry-academia joint research. This is why; he is closely working with a number of industries in Pakistan, and managed to win several projects from national and international funding agencies. As of now, he has published >35 journal articles with >100 impact factor. He is on review committee of >25 journals and guest editor for several journals.
As an acknowledgement of his quality research and outstanding contribution in promoting sustainable and green technology, he has been awarded “Green Talent Award-2015” by the Ministry of Education and Research, Germany. As a part of this award, he was offered fully funded research stay to carry out research at University of Leipzig, Germany. He is also the recipient of prestigious “Fulbright Scholar Award, USA. He also received scholarship from Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Erasmus Mundus, merit scholarship award from Myongji University, and KAIST, Republic of Korea to support MS and PhD studies.
