Biography

I hold a PhD in Pharmaceutical Microbiology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa in 2018. I am a microbiologist with an excellent track record and over 10 years’ of experience in antimicrobial resistance and infectious diseases. I am on a mission to ensure every woman giving birth sees her child grow, and that every child has a chance at a healthy life. My work encompasses the design and execution of studies focusing on the epidemiology, transmission, evolution, prevention, and diagnostics of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, particularly those revolving around reducing maternal and child mortality.
Specifically, my current research interests focus on maternal and child health, the molecular epidemiology of AMR, state-of-art technologies, and the One Health approach to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. I work on the transmission dynamics of resistant bacteria to mothers and neonates in Africa. She also aims to develop diagnostic tools for the timely diagnosis and prevention of neonatal infections.
