Biography

Vincent Woon is a researcher and educator dedicated to achieving transformative resilience in climate sustainability by advancing the complex understanding of the environment-economic-social nexus. Named a 2023 I&ECR Class of Influential Researcher by the American Chemical Society, he has published over 80 papers in prestigious journals, including Science (as cover). His research work has been featured in Future Earth, The Guardian, and Anthropocene Magazine.

Before academia, Vincent spearheaded green architectural designs for townships in Malaysia and Indonesia. He developed Malaysia’s first life cycle carbon database in the green construction industry. His community empowerment efforts include collaborations with the US Department of State, Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, and AMATI Indonesia by providing climate talks to society. He acted as an Editorial Board Member, Leading Guest Editor, Conference Chair, Session Chair, and Scientific Committee of various reputable international journals and conferences. He was invited to be a technical reviewer for a life cycle assessment policy brief published by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

Vincent holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He was awarded the 2024 Malaysia Private Education National Outstanding Young Researcher. He is a Global Development Network Awardee 2021, Fulbright YSEALI Fellow 2021, CrossCulture Programme Fellow 2021, Vebleo Fellow (Jr) 2022, SUSI Scholar 2023, and a member of the Young Scientist Network Academy Sciences Malaysia.
