Biography

Dr. Xu is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering at University of Illinois at Chicago. He is also affiliated with the Bioengineering Department as well as the Honors College at UIC. He received his Bachelor degree (2005) in thermal engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing with distinction. He received both Master’s degree (2006) and a PhD degree (2010) in mechanical engineering from Columbia University in the City of New York. Dr. Xu has authored more than 110 journal/conference publications and 5 patents/provisional patents, including several best paper/poster/presentation award winning publications. Dr. Xu has been recognized by the 2012 Tony B. Academic Travel Award, 2011 DARPA Young Faculty Award, 2011 National New Faces of Engineering Program and 2009 Chinese Government Award. Besides GYA, Dr. Xu is an active member of several other professional communities and has been serving for more than 80 journals and conferences as a reviewer. Supported by funding agencies (e.g. NSF, DARPA, Sigma Xi) and industry (e.g. Amazon and TeloVISION), Dr. Xu’s lab aims at understanding micro interfacial sciences and building novel micro/nanofluidic systems for energy, health and environment.
