Biography

Huda Abdullah is Associate Professor for Functional Nanomaterials in the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Her research strength lies in the field of nanomaterials with a specialization in producing and synthesis of nanostructure materials for solar cell fabrication, biosensor, microstrip patch antenna and various electronic devices. The research works on solar cell fabrication included finding suitable material as anti-reflective coating and suitable metal/semiconductor oxide materials for photoanode based dye-sensitized solar cell. The works focused on analyzing the basic optical, structural, electronic and chemical properties of metal oxides as a base material for high efficiency and low cost solar cell. For sensor research, she focused on the fabrication of lab-on-a-chip E. coli sensor based conducting polymer-metal and polymer-metal oxide nanocomposite thin films. The research works were supported by various research grants from government, local and international research institutions. In 2007, she was awarded For Women In Science (FWIS2007) award and a research grant from L’Oreal Malaysia. In June 2011, she obtained an international grant, COMSTECH-TWAS Research Grants for dye-sensitized solar cell project awarded by The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). In 2012, she was awarded as a Young Excellent Researcher by Malaysian Solid State Science and Technology Society (MASS). In July 2013, she obtained another international grant; Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) Research Grant for microbial detection sensor. Until now, she has successfully obtained more than 14 research grants as a project leader. Furthermore, she collaborated with local and international universities and research institutions such as Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB), The Ohio State University, USA, UDE-Duisburg University, Germany and ICTP, Trieste, Italy. In october 2014, she was awarded UKM Innovation Award (Individual Researcher category).
