Biography

Born in 1975, Edit Y. Tshuva conducted her Ph.D. studies under the supervision of Prof. Moshe Kol at Tel-Aviv University, working on group IV transition metal complexes as highly active and stereo-selective catalysts for the polymerization of alpha-olefins. After graduating in the year of 2001, she received the Fulbright fellowship and spent two years at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) working as a postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of Prof. Stephen J. Lippard on synthetic models for carboxylato-bridged di-iron enzymes. In 2003 she received the Allon fellowship for young faculty and joined the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as a Senior Lecturer, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2009. Her research group is interested in various topics that relate to synthetic bioinorganic chemistry, applying coordination chemistry techniques in the synthesis and investigation of transition metal complexes that have valuable biological and medicinal applications. In particular, the Tshuva group works on the development of stable, safe and selective metal-based complexes that exhibit anticancer activity, with a special emphasis on the analysis of their mechanism of action. In a different project, peptide models for metallochaperone proteins are studied to shed light on the transport and release mechanisms of metal ions in biological systems.
