Biography
Daniel B. Schwab, Ph.D., is a science and technology policy professional with experience in international research collaboration, research security, and STEM education. He serves as Senior Advisor for Policy & International Programs at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science — the largest funder of fundamental research in the physical sciences in the United States — where he advances principled international cooperation in critical and emerging technologies while strengthening the integrity and security of DOE-funded research. Previously, he was an AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow at the U.S. Department of Defense Basic Research Office and an Embassy Science Fellow at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, contributing to international science diplomacy and research partnerships. He is also the founder of STEM for Development (https://stemfordevelopment.org/), a non-profit that has helped students from over 95 countries navigate graduate applications, develop research skills, and connect with mentors through structured programs, workshops, and journal clubs. Trained as an evolutionary and ecological developmental biologist, he holds a Ph.D. in Evolution, Ecology, and Behavior from Indiana University and a B.S. in Biology from the College of William & Mary.
